Founded as the National Network in Solidarity with the Nicaraguan People in 1979, Nicaragua Network is an umbrella organization made up of local and national committees, task forces, and groups throughout the U.S. Its purpose is to increase understanding between the peoples of the U.S. and Nicaragua by providing financial and material aid for Nicaragua; educational speaking tours throughout the U.S.; and special work brigades. In addition to documenting these programs, the collection provides information about activist groups in the U.S. at both the grassroots and national level, and about the political and economic conditions of average Nicaraguan during the 1980s.
